Meet Brie

Originally hailing from country Victoria, I made the move to the sunshine state start of 2019. The Gold Coast truly is a dream to live in. The beaches are incredible, the weather is stunning and the laid-back culture makes me feel right at home.

I love playing sport and am currently playing AFL for the Palm Beach Currumbin womens team. This certainly has given me my fair share of bruises and injuries. Personally, I've found osteopathy to be super supportive in my recovery to get back up and at em' again for the next week.

Studying osteopathy has given me practical skills and a deep understanding of holistic medicine. I've experienced firsthand how effective it can be from relieving old injuries to calming the headaches and neck pain that stress can bring on. Osteopathy can work wonders for easing tension and calming the nervous system. It is precisely that experience that inspired me to help others, because I've seen how the right treatment can support real recovery and lasting wellbeing.

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a hands-on, holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on the health and function of the whole body, not just the area causing pain. It's guided by four core principles that shape the way osteopaths assess and treat every patient:

  1. The body is a unit. The person is viewed as a whole — body, mind, and spirit — rather than a collection of separate parts. A problem in one area can influence, and be influenced by, the rest of the body.

  2. Structure and function are interrelated. How the body is structured (bones, muscles, joints, tissues) directly affects how it functions, and vice versa. Restrictions in movement or posture can impact overall health, just as poor function can lead to structural changes over time.

  3. The body has the ability to heal itself. Osteopathy works with the body's own self-regulating and self-healing mechanisms, aiming to remove obstacles to recovery so the body can restore balance naturally.

  4. Treatment is based on these principles. Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms, treatment considers the person as a whole, addressing the underlying cause rather than just masking the pain.

With these principles in mind, osteopaths use a range of manual techniques — including soft tissue massage, stretching, joint mobilisation, adjustments, cupping, and dry needling — to relieve pain, restore movement, and support the body's natural ability to heal. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual, often combined with practical advice on posture, movement, and lifestyle to support long-term recovery and wellbeing.

FAQs

Do I need a referral to see an osteopath?

No, you don't need a referral to book an appointment. However, if you have a referral from your GP under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan, we do accept these.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Loose, comfortable clothing is best, as you may be asked to move certain areas so we can assess your posture and mobility. In some cases, you may be asked to undress to your underwear for parts of the examination or treatment — this is entirely up to your comfort level, and we'll always explain what we're doing beforehand.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your initial consultation includes a full health history discussion, a physical assessment, and hands-on treatment where appropriate. This helps us understand the root cause of your concern and build a treatment plan suited to you.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on your condition and how your body responds to treatment. Some people feel relief after one session, while others benefit from an ongoing treatment plan. We'll discuss this with you as we go.

Is osteopathy covered by private health insurance?

Yes, most private health funds offer rebates for osteopathy under extras cover. We recommend checking with your provider for your specific level of cover.

Is treatment painful?

Techniques are adapted to your comfort level. Some treatments, like deep tissue work or adjustments, may cause mild, temporary discomfort, but treatment should never be unbearable — always let your osteopath know if something doesn't feel right.
